Unit Meetings for May - Voting Rights of ex-Felons and Incarcerated Persons.
In keeping the national LWV goal of registering and educating all eligible voters, LWVLA and other Los Angeles County Leagues partnered with several other local organizations (County Registrar, Friends Outside, ACLU, Coalition to End Hunger and Homelessness, etc.) for the past year to determine what was the reality of the law allowing eligible inmates and ex-parolees to re-establish their voting rights. As part of our current Emphasis for Citizen Education, the May unit meetings will focus on all that we have learned--and how our efforts produced a current bill wending its way through the state legislature.
